Cuban Hamburger Steak: Creole Flavor in Every Bite
A popular preparation in many Cuban households that combines simplicity with bold flavor. This Cuban-style hamburger steak blends meats, fresh seasonings, and a touch of bacon to achieve a tender interior and a golden exterior. Perfect for sharing with family.
🍔 Ingredients needed:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 2 eggs
- 3 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 white onion, finely chopped
- ½ cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 4 strips of bacon
- Vegetable oil for cooking
- 2 teaspoons salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
🥣 Step 1: Prepare the mixture
Place both meats in a large bowl. Add the salt, pepper, onion, garlic, mustard, and parsley. Work the mixture with your hands until all the ingredients are evenly combined.
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and add them to the meat mixture. Continue kneading and then gradually add the breadcrumbs until you obtain a firm and manageable mixture.
Cover the bowl and let it rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes so the flavors can properly blend.
🥓 Step 2: Prepare the bacon
Cut the bacon into small pieces and sauté them in a wide skillet with a little oil. Cook over medium heat until they release their fat and become slightly crispy. Remove them and set aside.

Remove the mixture from the refrigerator. Take generous portions, shape them into balls with your hands, and then flatten them to form patties about one centimeter thick. Place them on a flat tray until all the mixture is used.

Heat the bacon fat in the skillet. Once hot, carefully place the hamburger steaks in the pan. Cook for about 3 minutes on each side until well browned and cooked through. Do this in batches if necessary.
Once ready, transfer them to paper towels to remove excess grease and serve immediately.
