Traditional Cuban-Style Fried Sweet Potatoes

A simple and charming Cuban delight, ideal to accompany any meal or to snack on with friends. Fried sweet potatoes, with their soft interior and crispy edges, are a culinary gem that highlights the flavors of our Creole cuisine.

🥘 Ingredients:

  • 1 large, firm sweet potato
  • Vegetable oil or lard, enough for frying
  • Salt or sugar to taste (optional)

👨‍🍳 Step-by-step preparation

1. Peel and cut the sweet potato

Begin by removing the skin from the sweet potato and rinse it well. Cut it into thick rounds and then into sticks of your preferred width.

2. Cook over medium heat

Place a skillet with oil over moderate heat and, when it is hot, add the sweet potato pieces. Cook slowly, stirring from time to time, until they are tender on the inside and lightly golden on the outside.

3. Brown and crisp

Increase the heat for a couple of minutes to achieve a crispy texture on the outside. Make sure they do not burn and move them with a slotted spoon to brown them evenly.

4. Drain and serve

Remove them from the oil and place them on absorbent paper to eliminate excess grease. You may sprinkle a little salt or sugar before serving, if you wish.
