Breaded Fish Fillets: From the Sea to the Table

This dish is a must-have classic on the Cuban table. The fish is gently marinated with lemon juice and spices, then coated with breadcrumbs to achieve a crispy exterior and a tender, juicy interior. Perfect to serve freshly made and enjoy with family.

🐟 Required ingredients:

  • 4 white-fleshed fish fillets (snapper, grunt, yellowtail snapper, tilapia, or your choice)
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 lemon (juice)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs or crushed crackers
  • 2 eggs
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 lemon, sliced, for serving

🧂 Step 1: Season and rest

Place the fillets in a large container and add the lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix gently so they are evenly coated. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour.

🥚 Step 2: Prepare the breading

After the resting time, remove the fish from the refrigerator and allow it to reach room temperature. Beat the eggs in a bowl until well combined. In a separate container, mix the breadcrumbs with the garlic powder.

Lightly pat the fillets dry with paper towels. Dip them first into the beaten eggs and then into the breadcrumbs, pressing gently. Repeat the process a second time to achieve a firmer coating.

🔥 Step 3: Fry properly

Heat enough oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the fillets in the pan without overcrowding. Fry until they develop an even golden color on both sides and the coating becomes crispy.

Remove them and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.

📌 Step 4: Final recommendations

Serve the fillets immediately after frying to enjoy their ideal texture. Accompany them with fresh lemon slices.
