Chicken Breast Cordon Bleu: Crispy on the Outside, Juicy on the Inside

Chicken cordon bleu is a classic recipe that never goes out of style. Thinly pounded chicken breast fillets, stuffed with ham and cheese, breaded and fried until achieving an irresistible golden finish. A perfect dish to shine at the family table.

🍗 Ingredients:

  • 4 large chicken breast fillets
  • 4 medium slices of cheese (Gouda recommended)
  • 4 thin slices of cooked ham or Serrano ham
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • All-purpose wheat flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Bread crumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying

 

 

🔪 Step 1: Prepare and Season

Gently pound the chicken breast fillets on both sides until thin and evenly sized. Place them in a large container.

Add the olive oil, salt, pepper, and paprika. Massage each piece so the seasonings are well absorbed. Cover the container and refrigerate for one hour.

🧀🥓 Step 2: Fill and Roll

Lay each fillet flat on a clean surface. Place a slice of cheese on top, followed by a slice of ham.

Roll tightly into a cylinder. Secure the ends with toothpicks, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate again for 30 minutes to help hold the shape.

🥚 Step 3: Breading

Prepare three containers: one with flour, one with the beaten eggs, and one with bread crumbs.

Pass each roll first through the flour, then the egg, and finally the bread crumbs, pressing lightly. Reinsert the toothpicks to prevent them from opening during frying.

🔥 Step 4: Cooking

Heat plenty of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat (340°F / 170°C).

Fry the rolls without overcrowding the pan, turning carefully until evenly golden and fully cooked. Remove, drain excess oil on paper towels, and remove the toothpicks before serving.
