Golden and Crispy Plantain Chips Fresh Out of the Pan, Ready to Enjoy.

Crispy Cuban-Style Plantain Chips

Craving a quick bite full of flavor? These chicharritas are thin slices of green plantain, fried to perfection until crispy and golden. They are ideal as a side dish or to enjoy as a snack. A classic touch of Cuban cuisine that never fails!

🥔 Ingredients needed

  • 2 green plantains
  • Vegetable oil, enough for frying
  • Fine salt to taste

👨‍🍳 Step by step for perfect plantain chips

1. Prepare the plantains

Peel the plantains and set them aside. It is important that they are very green to achieve a crunchy texture rather than a chewy one.

2. Heat the oil

Place plenty of oil in a deep frying pan. The ideal temperature is between 350 and 375°F. The oil should be enough to completely cover the chips while frying.

3. Slice and fry the plantains

Using a mandoline or a grater adjusted for thin slices, cut them directly over the hot oil. The chips should sink and rise quickly if the oil is at the right temperature.

4. Control the cooking

Fry them, stirring gently with a slotted spoon so they do not stick together and cook evenly. They will be ready when they are golden, crispy, and the oil stops bubbling intensely.

5. Drain and serve

Remove the chips and place them on paper towels to eliminate excess grease. Sprinkle with salt to taste while they are still hot.
