A classic and incredibly tasty side dish that’s a must on our tables. These tostones are easy to make, perfect for sharing, and they go with everything. A traditional recipe loved for its simplicity and authentic flavor!
🥘 Ingredients:
- 2 green plantains
- Vegetable oil, enough for frying
- Salt to taste
👨🍳 Step-by-Step Preparation
1. Cut and peel the plantains
Cut the plantains into thick slices, about one inch. Then remove the peel carefully so they don’t break.
2. First fry: internal cooking
Heat the oil over medium heat (approximately 285 °F). Fry the slices until they are tender on the inside, without browning on the outside. Remove them and place them on paper towels.
3. Flatten the plantains
Using the bottom of a can, a glass, or a press, gently flatten each cooked slice until it becomes round and flat.
4. Second fry: achieve the golden color
Raise the oil temperature to about 400 °F and fry the flattened plantains until they are golden and crispy. Remove them and drain on paper towels.
5. Season and serve
Sprinkle salt on top to taste just before serving. Enjoy them hot as a side dish to any meal.
