Crispy Malanga Fritters: A True Delight of Cuban Cuisine
Want to surprise everyone with an irresistible and 100% Cuban bite? These malanga fritters combine texture, flavor, and tradition. They are perfect as an appetizer, snack, or side dish. A simple recipe with a spectacular result!
🥔 Ingredients:
- 2 pounds of white malanga (about 1 large and 1 small)
- 1½ tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 2½ garlic cloves
- Enough vegetable oil for frying
👨🍳 Step-by-Step Preparation
1. Prepare the malanga
Peel the malangas thoroughly, wash them, and grate them finely using a grater. This step is key to achieving that creamy texture inside.
2. Make the garlic paste
Mash the garlic with a little salt and a portion of the chopped parsley until you get an aromatic paste.
3. Mix the batter
In a large bowl, beat the egg and add the grated malanga, the remaining parsley, the garlic paste, pepper, and the rest of the salt. Mix everything well until you get a uniform batter. Refrigerate it for a few minutes so it firms up.
4. Fry the fritters
Heat plenty of oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat (about 350°F or 175°C). Take spoonfuls of the mixture and fry them one by one, leaving space between each. Flip them until golden brown on both sides.
5. Drain and serve
Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot and enjoy their irresistible crispy exterior and soft interior.
