Chocolate Custard: A Delight from Cuban Cuisine
Chocolate custard is a dessert that never goes out of style on the Cuban table. With its rich flavor and silky texture, it’s the perfect choice to sweeten your afternoons and delight both kids and adults alike.
🥛 Ingredients:
- ½ liter of whole milk
- 2 tablespoons of white sugar
- 3 tablespoons of cornstarch
- 3 egg yolks
- 100 grams of chocolate bar (3 ½ ounces, cut into small pieces)
- A pinch of salt
🍯 Heat the milk:
Pour the milk into a large saucepan and place it over medium heat, making sure it doesn’t come to a boil. Once hot, turn off the burner, cover, and let it rest until lukewarm.
🥄 Prepare the mixtures:
In a small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch with a little cold milk, stirring until smooth. In another bowl, beat the egg yolks with the sugar until you get a uniform cream.
🔄 Combine and strain:
Gradually add the warm milk to the egg and sugar mixture while stirring constantly. Then strain everything back into the original saucepan using a fine sieve.
🔥 Incorporate the chocolate:
Return the saucepan to low heat and, once the mixture is warm, add the chocolate pieces. Stir continuously until the chocolate melts completely and blends in.
🍮 Thicken and serve:
Add the dissolved cornstarch along with a pinch of salt and cook while stirring until you reach a creamy consistency. Divide into small bowls, let cool to room temperature, and then refrigerate before serving.
