Crispy Cuban Chiviricos: A Sweet Tradition to Fall in Love With
Cuban chiviricos are a classic of traditional pastry, known for their light texture, golden finish, and that sweet touch that makes them irresistible. They are perfect for sharing with family or enjoying as a snack accompanied by a warm beverage.
🥣 Ingredients needed:
- 2 cups all-purpose wheat flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons dry wine
- Water (as needed)
- Vegetable oil for frying
- White sugar for sprinkling
👩🍳 Preparation method:
Start by sifting the flour together with the salt and sugar to aerate it. Place it on a clean surface forming a small well in the center.
Add the egg, olive oil, and dry wine into the center. Gradually mix, incorporating the ingredients with circular movements until a uniform base is formed.
Add small amounts of water as needed until a flexible dough is obtained. Knead for a few minutes until it no longer sticks to your hands. Then cover it and let it rest for one hour.
After resting, take small portions and roll them out with a rolling pin until reaching a thin sheet of about 3 millimeters thick. Cut into rectangular strips and repeat the process until all the dough is used.
Heat plenty of oil in a deep pan. Fry the strips in batches, turning them so they cook evenly until they reach a golden color.
Remove them and place on absorbent paper. Before serving, sprinkle sugar on top to give them their characteristic sweet finish.
